Hawks' Nest returns for third season

The Saugeen Economic Development Corporation and the Bruce Community Futures Development Corporation are bringing back the Hawks' Nest for a third season.

This Dragon’s Den inspired competition encourages entrepreneurs from various sectors to pitch their business ideas in an attempt to secure financial support from local investors, The Hawks.

Entrepreneurs in Grey, Bruce, Owen Sound, Wellington North and Minto can pitch their business idea to secure Up to $30,000 financial support from local investors.

Saugeen Development GM Rose Austin said the first two seasons saw the Hawks make some big investments.

"Over $100,000, so 14 businesses started or succeeded to grow their business venture a little faster than they normally would have without the investment from the Hawks," she added.

She said each Hawk must invest at least $5,000 on the night of the competition, in June of 2020 at Owen Sound's Roxy Theatre.

"They can invest in all of the entrepreneurs, they can throw their $5,000 at one of them, they can invest more than $5,000," she added.

Entrepreneurs will receive assistance with preparing their business plans until November 7 in Owen Sound, Kincardine, Minto and Durham.

In addition to the regular contestants, a special youth category for ages 11-18 has been added. This is a great opportunity for the youth to showcase their entrepreneurial skills and innovative ideas.
