The Municipality of Kincardine is applying for grant money to build a new community hall and library to replace the Whitney Crawford Community Centre in Tiverton.
Mayor Anne Eadie said Tiverton is in dire need of a new centre, with current facility over 60 years old with outdated plumbing and Kitchen facilities.
"Tiverton is one area that is ready to go, we have water and sewer, and it's close to Bruce Power. Supply chain companies have already relocated there," she explained.
The Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program offers federal and provincial grants in the multi-purpose category would cover about 73 per cent of the $6 million project. Community fundraising would be necessary to cover to help pay for the $1.6 million municipal portion.
"The Tiverton area had a most successful reunion this summer, and they raised a whole bunch of money, and they're keen to fundraise for a new community centre," said Eadie.
The project is tender ready after council approved the drawing for the building in August.
