UPDATE: Road re-opens following costly structure fire

**Updated as of 10:30 a.m. October 13th, 2019**

A structure fire closed a local road near Wingham this morning.

The OPP confirmed on Twitter that Howick-Turnberry Road between Kieffer Line and Powell Line was closed as local fire crews battled a structure fire. Police were on scene with firefighters and local EMS. The call came in at 2:15 a.m. this morning, and the Fire Department of North Huron has confirmed the house and shop that were on fire are a total loss. Unfortunately a family pet perished in the fire, but luckily no one was hurt as a result.

The road has re-opened. There is no confirmation on a cause to the blaze, and damages are estimated to be roughly $400,000.
