The Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board will use results of annual testing from the Education Quality and Accountability Office as part of their School and Board Improvement Plans.
The number of students in Grades 3 and 6 meeting the provincial standard in reading and writing was higher than the provincial average, but the number of math students performing as expected is lower than the provincial average rate. Last year's math test results for Grade 9 show the board's students are performing below average.
In Applied Mathematics 31% of students met the provincial standard, compared to a Provincial Average of 44%. In Academic Mathematics, 80% met the standard, but that still trails the Provincial Average of 84%. For the Grade 10 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test, 68% of first time eligible students who fully participated were successful. The provincial average is 80%.
Director of Education, Gary O’Donnell, commented that “we are proud of the work of our staff and students. EQAO is one important measure we use when we look at the success and progress of our Catholic Schools. We use our EQAO data to inform our School and Board Improvement Plans to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our students through quality instruction and targeted supports for learning.”
