The mayor of Central Huron says the grand opening of eleven new storefronts in downtown Clinton this Saturday is going to be a huge celebration.
Seven of the new businesses were winners in the recent "Win This Space" contest, and the other four decided to move their businesses to Clinton after they heard about the first seven new storefronts.
Mayor Jim Ginn said it represents a major change for downtown Clinton.
"It changes the perception of the town, I think. There's something about empty storefronts that just brings people down. In a period of a couple of months that really will change the face of the town," he said.
The mayor added two more businesses have expressed an interest in moving to Clinton, so that should pretty well take care of all of the empty storefronts in town.
"I think the big thing is when people realize that the community came forward with cash out of their pockets to pay the rent for stores, people know that's the sign of a caring community and that's where they want to open up their businesses," he said.
There several events planned for Clinton on Saturday, September 28 and more details can be found on the Central Huron website.
