Grey Bruce OPP officers have charged 114 motorists with impaired driving so far this year.
In 2018, for the same time period, 63 drivers were charged with the same offence. That is an 81 per cent increase, which the OPP is calling "disturbing."
OPP releasing those statistics, after finding a pick-up truck in the ditch Monday at Grey Road 170 near Side Road 15, Georgian Bluffs.
The driver was arrested at the scene and transported to Grey Bruce OPP detachment in Wiarton. The results of the breath samples provided by the driver were over three times the legal limit of 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
In April of this year, Grey Bruce OPP reported a concerning and troubling 50 per cent increase of drivers charged with impaired driving throughout the detachment area, from the previous year.
"This dangerous and destructive behaviour by some drivers is truly disturbing. The privilege of holding a driver's licence in Ontario, can and will, be removed from anyone who drives a motor vehicle while impaired. Grey Bruce OPP are committed to public safety on our highways. Through proactive traffic stops, RIDE programs and traffic complaints from the public we will continue to pursue safe roads for our communities," said Inspector Martin Murray.
