Space becoming limited for popular local hike

There are only a few spaces left for the Maitland Trail Association’s annual El Camino Hike.

Treasurer Erinn Lawrie said the hike is a major fund-raiser for the Association, a two-day hike that follows the main Maitland Trail for 49 kilometres.

“So the El Camino event follows the Maitland Trail, the main trail, which is 49 kilometres. It starts in Auburn and ends on the beach in Goderich. There are some shorter hikes each day if you'd rather if you don't want to do the full trail," said Lawrie.

Lawrie said the El Camino Hike has become more popular every year. In the past, 150 to 200 hikers participated and this year they already have more.

The deadline to sign up is September 14 or until they get all the spots filled.

“We're almost at 300 hikers this year but there are a few spaces left,” added Lawrie.

The El Camino hike takes place on September 28 and 29 and more information can be found on the Maitland Trail Association website.
