A Wingham male has been charged with a number of drug charges following an incident in Belgrave on Monday.
At 9 pm on Monday September 2nd, Huron County OPP had a RIDE program stop set up at the intersection of Queen Street and Belgrave Road. Officers asked the two occupants of a stopped vehicle to exit the vehicle for a search under the Cannabis Control Act. The driver got out and dropped a vial of suspected fentanyl on the ground, and when officers attempted to arrest him, he fled the scene.
A pursuing officer caught the male and during a second arrest attempt the officer was assaulted before backup arrived and the male was placed under arrest. Further investigation revealed the man was in possession of vials of suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine, cash, drug paraphernalia and bear spray.
The 31-year-old Wingham male is facing numerous drug charges as well as assaulting an officer and resisting arrest. He will remain in custody and has a court appearance in Goderich scheduled for September 9th.
