A CKNX listener dodged a fraud attempt this morning.
The listener in the Hanover/Walkerton area tells CKNX News that they received a phone call this morning from an automated voice claiming to be the VISA Fraud Department, and that a suspicious withdrawal had occurred. The voice then prompted the individual to press 1 to proceed. The individual hung up and immediately called their bank branch, and discovered that it was indeed a fraud attempt.
These types of fraud calls or emails have become commonplace, and police frequently remind residents to always be cautious, never give out personal or banking info via email, text, or on the phone. Always call your bank branch if you have any concerns or questions, and if you feel you've been the victim of a fraud attempt, call the police immediately.
