Environment Minister Jeff Yurek addressed the provincial government's decision to fight the federal carbon tax at the Supreme Court level Thursday morning following an announcement for fish farming in Hanover.
Speaking with media at the Cedar Crest Trout Farms near Hanover, Yurek said the province maintains the carbon tax is an unconstitutional interference in provincial jurisdiction.
"We have a plan, an environmental plan that we released last November which will take us to the Paris Accord levels of 30 per cent below 2005 levels and we can do it without initiating a carbon tax," he said.
Initially last week Premier Doug Ford said he would hold off on making a decision on fighting the carbon tax at the Supreme Court level until after October's federal election, but changed his mind earlier this week. Yurek says the carbon tax unfairly takes money out of the pockets of the people of Ontario.
"We're going to take every means that we have available to us to fight this tax to ensure that Ontarians have affordability," said Yurek.
