The municipality of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh is inviting area residents to a public meeting to discuss the issue of development in the Port Albert area.
Mayor Glen McNeil said the municipality has 26 kilometres of shoreline from Goderich to Amberley. It also has the lowest tax rate of any municipality in Huron County. McNeil said that combination has made it very attractive to people wanting to move into the area and live along the shoreline. He added they've specifically seen a considerable increase in building permits in the Port Albert area.
In response to that, they're hosting a public meeting on September 7.
“So we're hosting a public information meeting to invite all the public to attend and to have input on future development in Port Albert and any effect this development will have on landowners, specifically on drainage," said McNeil.
He said the goal with this development is to provide positive development opportunities.
“Drainage is something we want to address as a topic with this development and our aim, with this development, is to provide a positive development opportunity," he added.
McNeil said the last plan they had done was in 2012, so it's time to update that plan and drainage, in particular, is an issue in Port Albert because of the height of some the roads relative to the lots where some of the homes would be built.
The public meeting is being held on Saturday, September 7 at 10 a.m. at Christ Church in Port Albert.
