Turtle hatchlings to be released this week at Morrison Dam

The Huron Stewardship Council will be hosting it's fourth annual Turtle Release this Thursday at the Morrison Lake, near Exeter.

Hope Brock from the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority said the turtles have already started hatching and she expects they'll release about 40 hatchlings on Thursday.

The event is an opportunity for people of all ages to see the turtles up close, but it also helps the hatchlings make it safely into the water.

Turtles will be released every half hour from 1:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, rain or shine.

Brock said they had close to 1,000 people out to see the release last year.

Youth volunteers practice coastal conservation

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
