New Champions at Seaforth Country Classic

The Seaforth Country Classic has a new champion in both the Men's and Women's Division.

Russell Budd, of Toronto, shot 62 and 68 to finish ten-under par and take the Men's Championship.

Budd says this was his fourth year playing the Classic and he really enjoys the course and looks forward to coming back in the future.

Brooke Baker, of Florida, shot 69 and 67 to finish six under par, one shot better than defending champion Selena Costible.

Baker says “I like to bomb it and it's really firm this year, the fairways are a lot firmer than last year, so that made it a lot of fun, like I was able to reach a couple of the par fives and I really enjoy basically trying to hole shots from the fairway, just being able to try and stuff it.”

She adds one of her goals for next year is to get more women to the event. There were only seven women in the field this year and Baker says they'd like to see the same number of women as there are men.

She says “We definitely wanna grow the field on the women's side. We wanna get more players here, at least get as many as the men have in the same event. I told a lot of girls about it this year, but it hasn't been on their schedule long enough for them to really know enough about it, so I think we're gonna try harder to spread the word next year and really recruit more girls.”

Baker adds, the fact that a lot of the players are billeted with local residents was a unique experience and she really enjoyed that.
