Huron East council has passed a bylaw that will prevent another cannabis operation, like the one currently in place in Vanastra, from starting up in the municipality.
Mayor Bernie MacLellan explains residents have complained about the odour from the building in Vanastra, but they believe the operation is in compliance with all of the Provincial and Federal regulations that were in place at the time, so the municipality doesn't have the authority to shut it down.
MacLellan says “the municipality has passed a bylaw which will prevent a place like we currently have from opening up close to a residential area. Unfortunately that doesn't do anything for a place that legally opened under the rules that were in place when they started.”
MacLellan also adds “unfortunately that's not something that we've had a lot of luck in getting answers from, either of those bodies, but we are still looking into a few comments that were given to us. We're doing everything we can, but our options are limited at this point.”
