UPDATE: Boater pronounced dead after rescue off Southampton

Three boaters rescued a man from the waters of Lake Huron off Southampton after responding to a small boat travelling in circles in the water at about 9 a.m. on Friday.

They began CPR immediately and took the man to the docks at the Chesley Street Boat Launch in Southampton.

There, three Saugeen Shores police officers met the boat at the dock and utilized an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and continued CPR.

Bruce County EMS arrived shortly after and the male was transported to the Grey Bruce Health Services - Southampton Hospital by Bruce County EMS along with the officers who continued to provide CPR assistance.

The man was pronounced dead on Saturday.

It is still unknown at this time what led to these circumstances.

The Saugeen Shores Fire Department, the Ontario Provincial Police Marine Unit and the Canadian Coast Guard provided assistance at the scene and the Ontario Provincial Police continue to investigate the incident.

The accident is not considered suspicious.
