Bike to Work in Saugeen Shores

Saugeen Shores residents can join Bike to Work Day in Port Elgin and Southampton tomorrow morning.

Employees from Southampton and Port Elgin area are encouraged to get outside, leave a few minutes early and ride their bikes to work.

Coffee and treats have been generously provided by Rabbit Dash and South Stables Coffee House for cyclists to enjoy along their route between 7:30 – 9:00 am at Coulter Parkette in Port Elgin and in front of the Southampton Town Hall. Residents are encouraged to stop by to kick-start their day and pick up free bicycle safety information and swag.

Bike to Work Day is part of June’s Bike Month initiatives aimed at encouraging people to incorporate more trips by bike into their day-to-day routines and outings. Businesses are encouraged to promote Bike to Work Day with their staff

“There are many benefits to biking to work, both physically and mentally,” said Mayor Luke Charbonneau. “We hope that by building in a day to encourage people to ride their bikes to work, they’ll see the value, feel the benefits and try to include cycling as another mode of transportation to travel throughout our community.”

Residents are also encouraged to check out our new interactive cycling map: SaugeenShores.ca/CyclingMap
