Local mayor happy with county motion to combine ROMA/Good Roads conferences

Huron County council has passed a resolution requesting the Ontario Good Roads Association and the Rural Ontario Municipalities Association go back to combining their annual conferences.

Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh Mayor Glen McNeil noted there is a considerable cost to municipal councillors in attending each conference separately.

“There is a great opportunity if either conference wants to have a day and a half and then a day and a half for the other conference at the same location at the same time, it would streamline the cost to our municipalities," he said.

McNeil acknowledged that while there are common issues between the two organizations, there are also other issues unique to each one. But he said that can be addressed by organizing conferences at the same time.

“Just organize them so that they are at the same time over a three-day period, at the same location. It would eliminate the extra cost of travel, accommodation of municipal representatives and county representatives to attend those conferences," said McNeil.

Several municipalities throughout the province have passed similar motions.
