The mayor of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh says the province has given them an extension to July of next year to solve the arsenic problem in the Dungannon drinking water.
The drinking water in Dungannon has straddled the line between acceptable and not acceptable for the last few years.
Mayor Glen McNeil said the reason they've been given the extension is that they are making progress.
"We have engaged Walkerton Clean Water and they are currently testing different opportunities as to attach the arsenic so that it is not fluid in the water," he said.
McNeil said the extension will give them the time they need to solve the problem.
"Walkerton Water have told us that they will come up with a solution to the current situation by year-end, so it will give us an opportunity to install the necessary equipment to alleviate the issue," he said.
