Southern Bruce County to receive Safe Communities designation

Southern Bruce County has earned a national designation as a Safe Community.

Representatives from the OPP, Southern Bruce County Safe Communities Committee, Parachute Canada, and local mayors and dignitaries and mayors will attend an event next week.

Parachute Canada is a national, charitable organization dedicated to preventing injuries and saving lives.

The celebration is set for Thursday, June 6 at the Walkerton Clean Water Centre at 12:30 p.m.

Southern Bruce County Safe Communities is a partnership of organizations in the municipalities of Arran-Elderslie, Brockton, Huron-Kinloss, Kincardine, Saugeen Shores and South Bruce who support community safety and injury prevention.

The Southern Bruce County Safe Communities Committee developed a "Pocket Your Keys" social media campaign, established "Safe Internet Exchange" sites,  and hosted events during National Teen Driver Safety Week at local high schools.

Youth volunteers practice coastal conservation

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
