The director of education for the Bruce Grey Catholic District School Board has serious concerns about what he calls a drastic increase to secondary class sizes.
Jamie McKinnon said having fewer teachers in schools will have an impact on programming both in and out of the classroom.
McKinnon said teachers are one of the board's most valuable resources. He added that fewer teachers combined with restrictions on how teachers are utilized limits the board's ability to provide the best possible learning environment for students.
As a rural board, he said it may be difficult to bring in long-term occasional teachers as they need to relocate to this area.
He added the school board sees value in e-learning and supports the institution of technology to assist in learning. However, he said he is concerned it may not be suitable for every student.
The deadline for feedback to the Ministry of Education on planned changes is Friday.
