Huron Manufacturing Association expecting better results in 2019-2020

Last year was a very challenging year for manufacturers in Huron County, according to the acting chair of the Huron Manufacturing Association.

But Larry Livingston is optimistic about the coming year.

"The March report came out from the federal government saying there was an increase in manufactured sales of two per cent, which was a lot more than what was expected, and that covered 50-some per cent of manufacturing in Canada, so it's got to spill off into Huron County," he said.

Livingston said the removal of American tariffs on steel and aluminum was good news.

One problem still facing the Huron Association is the stagnation of membership.

"We have 262 manufacturers in Huron County and potentially another 1,300 associates that actually support manufacturing. So there is no reason that we should not have more of the manufacturers and the suppliers on board," he said.

Livingston said the more members they have, the more credibility they have with funding organizations.
