Saugeen Mobility and Regional Transit has pulled its request for money off the table as it seeks to purchase some new vans, but they plan to make the same request early next year.
Spokesperson Roger Cook has appeared at several municipal councils over the last two months. The service currently has around 30 vehicles, however they are getting quite old, and some will need to be replaced shortly. Cook was seeking a quarter-million dollars to be shared by nine municipal partners, finds which would be used to purchase three nine-passenger buses, as well as a new 18-passenger bus.
SMART is a specialized public transit operation serving mentally and physically challenged residents.
