Surprise announcement at Clinton's 'Win This Space' finale

Clinton will soon have five new businesses opening.

Crystal McMaster was named the overall winner of Clinton's 'Win This Space' contest. But after she was announced Thursday night as the winner of a year's free rent of a store on the main street in Clinton, it was announced that all five finalists would be given a year's free rent on a main street property.

Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn explained that the idea to award more than one winner was Community Improvement Officer Angela Smith's, and she deflected the credit by pointing out that she got the extra funding from the entire community.

"I went door to door. I have private money, residents that donated from their own pockets, as well as some of the businesses in the community, and not just in town but throughout the municipality," said Smith.

Contestants on stage who assumed they had lost were stunned when they found out they were winners too.

Smith said they will soon have occupants in five empty storefronts on the main street of Clinton.
