Goderich plans public forum on Memorial Arena future

The mayor of Goderich plans to announce the date for a special forum to give people the opportunity to share their thoughts on the future of the Memorial Arena.

The ice had to be taken out of the arena last year when an ammonia leak was discovered.

John Grace said the only decision that's been made so far is that they will not be putting the ice back into the building.

"We're about to announce it probably in two or three weeks, we will set up a forum in which people can come to council on a given day, at a given time specifically for a discussion on the Memorial Arena," he said.

Mayor Grace said the Memorial Arena has been there for 70 years and its part of the fabric of the community. They are looking at a number of options for the building and they want to hear what residents would like to see there.

"We need to have that in order for everyone to get a chance to speak and for council to listen to the community on what the arena is, what it means to them and how we need to move forward as a community," said Grace.
