More locally-grown wine in Huron County

Huron County has a new winery. It's called Cornerfield Winery, located at the intersection of Centennial Road and Highway 21.

Adam Durand, his wife Carrie, and his father Joe started growing their grapes in 2015 and they've been adding vines ever since. They have about five and a half acres now, and they'll be up to seven acres by next year.

Durand said they currently have three white wines and a blush and two red wines for sale and they plan to add more.

"We've also got a hop cider that we did with Bad Apple Cider, just down the road here and that just came out this week and it's been a hit with all the cider drinkers," he said.

Durand said one of the amazing things about the industry is the way all of the producers in Huron County work together.

"Last fall we did a beer with River Road, just outside of Bayfield. They did a beer called Two Worlds Collide," he said. "They used our cab franc grapes with their beer and they made just a great beer out of it. So it's awesome that we can get together and share ideas and products with one another."

Durand said they're only open Fridays to Sundays, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., but by July he expects they'll expand to five or six days a week.
