Three Owen Sound citizens were honoured as volunteers with the Owen Sound Police Service.
The three were recognized by Chief Craig Ambrose with Chief Citation Awards.
Pastor David Kennedy is with the Salvation Army and has been the Owen Sound Service's chaplain for seven years. He said his role as chaplain is providing much-needed support to officers who have a very difficult job.
"I'm not sure that we as regular citizens have any real comprehension of the nature of the calls that the officers handle on a routine basis and the impact those calls have on them professionally and personally," said Kennedy.
Also recognized with Chief Citation Awards were Darlyn Gaviller and Linda Williams. They've staffed the Owen Sound Police Service's satellite office at the Heritage place mall for 17 years. They provide information about the police to citizens and visitors to the city.
Chief Ambrose said their volunteer contribution is invaluable.
"Seventeen years is a long time to do anything but it speaks volumes about the individuals and their dedication that they have for this community and the dedication that they've presented to the police service," said Ambrose.
