Huron County OPP lay fraud charges

A man from Niagara-on-the-Lake has been charged with fraud-related offences by Huron County OPP following a lengthy investigation.

Police received a complaint in November of 2017 from a Huron County resident with an allegation of fraud.  The investigation determined the accused used fraud and false pretences to victimize the complainant of several thousand dollars.

OPP officers arrested the accused without incident last week.

The 61-year-old man from Niagara-on-the-Lake is facing criminal charges of fraud Over $5,000, theft over $5,000, and making a false statement in writing under false pretences.

He has since been released from custody with a court date scheduled for May 27 in Goderich.

Investigators said they believe there may be other victims in the local area and throughout the province.
