Heavy rainfall and saturated ground will impact local waterways

A rainstorm sweeping across Southern Ontario Wednesday will likely have an impact of local waterways.

The system is expected to bring 30-40 millimetres of rainfall to some local watersheds.

Conservation authorities report that ground conditions are already saturated.  hile no significant flooding is expected, higher flows in rivers and streams will increase the risk of flooding in low-lying areas that are prone to spring flooding.

River flows will remain higher than normal for the rest of the week.  Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks are very slippery and, when combined with cold, fast-moving water, pose a danger.

Meanwhile, the Middle Maitland Rejuvenation Committee has postponed the annual River Clean-up in Listowel until this Saturday because river conditions are unsafe with slippery slopes and high, fast flows.
