Huron County team in Ottawa to help with flood measures

Seven volunteers with the Huron and Area Search and Rescue (HASAR) team arrived in Ottawa Tuesday.

Spokesperson Heather Boa said they've gone for assigned stretches of time.

"A number of them are going from today until Friday, and a number of them are going from today until Sunday, and this weekend we'll have some more volunteers head out, and then more volunteers will head out on the following Monday," she said.

Boa said they'll be there to assist the flood prevention efforts in any way they can.

"They will be coordinating and helping volunteers to do the sandbagging and any other flood control measures that are required of them.     They have training working as a team and working in crisis," she said.

"Some of their employers received an hours notice that they wouldn't be in the next day and they that, maybe, wouldn't be in until next Monday.    And their families have also had to be flexible and put things on hold while they go, so it's also pretty short notice for them," she added.
