Two committees are joining forces to inform the public about substantial ash tree loss occurring in Listowel Memorial Park.
The Middle Maitland Rejuvenation Committee and the Memorial Park Rejuvenation committee are seeking donations to offset the cost of removing the affected dead trees and replacing them with a different species.
Memorial Park has suffered substantial tree loss that is being attributed to the Emerald Ash Borer, with around 80 ash trees either dying or at risk.
Since its arrival in North America, the Emerald Ash Borer has killed tens of millions of ash trees and continues to spread into new areas.
Scientists with the Canadian Forest Services estimate that costs of removal and replacement of trees affected by Emerald Ash Borer may reach $2 billion in Canada over a 30-year period.
