Huron County Health warns of opioid overdoses

The Huron County Health Unit is sounding the alarm about the rise of reported opioid overdoses in several surrounding Counties, including five fatalities in London this past week.

In recent days, police services are seeing a spike in overdoses in Sarnia, as well as in Middlesex, Oxford, Norfolk and Brant counties.

The Huron County Substance Misuse Working Group warned that any street drug could be contaminated with an opioid. The group is begging users to carry Naloxone, which is available at most pharmacies and the Health Unit.

You should never use street drugs alone, and even a life-saving dose of naloxone is only temporary, and the overdose can return. Always call 911 in the event of an overdose. Canada’s Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act can protect you from charges Under for simple possession when you report an overdose.

The Huron County Substance Misuse Working Group is made up of many partners, including the Huron County Health Unit, OPP, first responders, hospitals, physicians, frontline mental health and addiction services, education and local community groups.
