Huron County expected to approve Safe Places policy

Huron County council is expected to ratify a Safe Places policy on Wednesday for staff who regularly interact with young people.

The recommendation was approved at the last county council meeting.

Selena Hazlitt is the executive director of Rural Response for Healthy Children, which is one agency that provides Safe Places training programs.

"It's a community-based education tool around ensuring that the places where children and youth interact in our community know that they are with trusted adults who will listen and respond to them in times of witnessing bullying, harassment and abuse or discrimination," she said.

Hazlitt stressed the importance of all adults who are around children know how to respond to those situations and how to listen to the children.
