North Perth is looking at the possibility of establishing a skilled trades school.
CAO Kris Snell said with initiatives like the mayor’s new Labour Reliability Task Force, a skilled trades school would assist in bringing more skilled workers into the region, which would, in turn, assist employers in need of skilled employees. It could include training programs such as computer sciences and repair.
"If we could actually have something locally that didn’t require transportation, that would assist people in having training right here at home so that they could get a job right here in North Perth," said Snell.
Snell said they’re looking at partnerships already established at Listowel District Secondary School, as well as with schools like Fanshawe in terms of their interest in establishing more trades-related schooling in the area.
He also noted they are aware of other trade schools in the county that don’t require transportation to places like Stratford, which is what they would be after.
