UPDATE: One man injured in shop fire near Damascus

A propane tank explosion and shop fire in Wellington North sent one man to hospital with serious injuries.

Wellington North Fire Services and the OPP responded to the fire on Line 6 near Damascus around 4:00p.m. Tuesday.

Guelph-Wellington Paramedics Service transported a man in his 50's to hospital with third-degree burns.   He was later airlifted to a trauma centre in Hamilton for treatment of burns.

He remains in stable conditon.

The shop was engulfed in flames when fire fighters arrived.  There were also a number of propane tank explosions.

Surrounding homes were evacuated to ensure the safety of all residents because of the number of propane tanks stored on the property.

Line 6 was closed from Sideroad 13 and Wellington Road 16 because of the fire.   It reopened last night.
