Morris-Turnberry wants representation on Wingham's Howson Dam Committee

The conversation continues regarding a committee of council that would make recommendations on the future of the Howson Dam in Wingham.

Reeve Bernie Bailey and the rest of North Huron council continue to work out Terms of Reference for a Howson Dam committee of council, but a neighbouring municipality would like to have a say in the dam's future.

Morris-Turnberry Mayor Jamie Heffer said any potential decision on the Howson Dam could have an impact on lands in his municipality.

"We certainly realize the dam is a restriction when there is major water flow, and it's been known to cause flooding affecting several properties in Morris-Turnberry," he said.

Heffer feels any committee established in North Huron should include at least one person representing Morris-Turnberry.

"For us, we would hope we would have some involvement, at least be party to discussions that take place. For no other reason other than to be able to share concerns and effects that any decision having been made would have on the upstream landowners," he added.
