Waterloo 8 Stratford 5

The Stratford Warriors have some work to do to keep their post season alive. They fell 8-5 to Waterloo yesterday and are now down 2-0 in their GOJHL Midwest Conference semifinal.

Waterloo opened the scoring just 26 seconds into the game. Tyson Kielt and Sean Ross answered for Stratford to give the Warriors a one goal lead just before the midway point of the first. Waterloo's Winston Cestnick tied the game heading into the second.

Cestnick's second of the game gave the Siskins the lead. Jeff Schrattner and Tyler Dam scored back-to-back power play goals just 15 seconds apart to put the Siskins up 5-2. Nick Jung scored for Stratford with the man advantage to make it a 5-3 game. Waterloo scored twice more before the period was over to have a four goal lead heading into the third.

Drew Welsch scored for Stratford 2:48 into the second and Corson Searles found the twine at 13:19 to narrow the gap to just two goals. The Warriors pulled their goalie for the extra attacker but Waterloo's Sam Spaedt scored on the empty net making it 8-5 Waterloo.

The Warriors were 1-for-5 with the man advantage while the Siskins capitalized on three of their six power play opportunities.
