North Perth moves ahead with task force

North Perth has officially approved a new task force spearheaded by the mayor.

The Mayor's Task Force on Labour Reliability will be focusing on a number of issues, and Mayor Todd Kasenburg said it was created to address a common problem in rural Ontario.

"That is that we have very low unemployment rates in our communities, and we have industries and agricultural businesses who are actually finding it difficult to secure those employees," said Kasenburg.

The mayor said North Perth's Labour Reliability Task Force will look at some existing issues facing employers and how municipalities like North Perth can combat those issues and encourage more workers to come and be permanent parts of the community.

"What we're hoping the task force will do is bring together some of the brighter minds who work and are concerned about the labour force problems, and work through some possible solutions," added Kasenburg.

Kasenburg said the challenges are common in rural Ontario municipalities.

The task force will be made up of a number of different people in the community with council represented by Mayor Kasenburg and councillors Neil Anstett and Lee Anne Andriessen.
