Fundraising target of $3.5M for Alexandra Marine and General Hospital Foundation

The Alexandra Marine and General Hospital Foundation has started a major fundraising campaign to replace a CT scanner and refurbish the mental health unit at AMGH in Goderich.

Fundraising Chair John Peet said they have approached Goderich council and Huron County council so far. Their goal is $3.5 million.

Peet said there are two specific projects, and the first is to replace the CT scanner.

"The CT scanner engine, let's call it, the actual machine, the suite was created and constructed a number of years ago when we put the original machine in," he said. "Those machines have a life expectancy of about ten years and we're coming up on year nine now, so it's going to need to be replaced soon."

The remaining $2 million will go towards refurbishing the mental health unit at AMGH.

"It is the only in-patient psychiatric service in Huron County," said Peet. "That dates back to the 70s when it was originally put in place, so much-needed renovations for the services they provide."

Peet pointed out both of those components are unique to the hospital in Goderich and the CT scanner is the only one in Huron County.
