ABCA Board approves new Shoreline Management Plan

It's taken four years to prepare, and the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority's updated Shoreline Management Plan has been approved by the authority's board.

Water and Planning Manager Geoff Cade said it was a long process but they wanted to make sure they got it right, so they invited and received plenty of public input.

"They certainly provided some input into it, which we absolutely appreciated and I've already received a thank you from one of the shoreline groups, thanking us for the work and for the authority listening to their concerns and trying to address them," he said.

Cade said contentious issues included shoreline protection and the need for a report from a coastal engineer when new shoreline protection is created. But with some compromises and a lot of clarification, Cade said they were able to work through them.
