A-C-W may have a solution to the Dungannon well water problem

The mayor of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh believes they have found a way to address the high levels of arsenic in the municipal wells near Dungannon.

Glen McNeil said early last year the acceptable levels were lowered from 25 to 10 parts per million, and the levels in the Dungannon area alternated between above or below 10, but mostly just over.

McNeil said they've found a way to use new technology that will allow them to upgrade their existing system, and pull the arsenic out and prevent it from circulating through the system.

A representative from the Ministry of Environment is coming to A-C-W in early March to look at their system.

McNeil said he is hoping they will get approval for what they are proposing and be permitted to extend their temporary relief beyond the current expiry date of July 1 to give them time to make the changes.
