One section of the Stratford General Hospital has been closed because of an influenza outbreak.
Chief Nursing Executive Anne Campbell stated in a news release that three patients on the Medicine Unit have tested positive for influenza. The unit has been closed to admissions, restrictions have been put in place on visitors and there are limitations on staffing for the unit.
Exceptions will be made for compassionate grounds or for direct family members of palliative patients.
"With flu still prevalent in the Huron and Perth communities we’d like to remind the public there are several things that can be done to protect yourself and others from contracting influenza," added Campbell. "Get a flu shot, which is still available from your family doctor and local pharmacies; wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based sanitizer; if you are not feeling well please stay home and rest; keep commonly touched surfaces clean and cough or sneeze into your sleeve."
Influenza vaccinations rates for staff, physicians, volunteers and students at Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance sites are high at 86 per cent.
