More international students in Avon Maitland and Bluewater District schools

The Avon Maitland District School Board's International Students program continues to grow.

Superintendent Jodie Baker said they have about 160 international students in the second semester in Avon Maitland schools and another 30 international students that have been transferred to their partners in the Bluewater District School Board.

Some of the students were in Avon Maitland schools for the first semester and are continuing in the second semester, while others are just starting the second semester here.

Baker said a huge part of the success of the Avon Maitland program is the host families.

"We try to get the profiles of the students coming in and match them to families, so we have students in households where there are no pets if they don't enjoy pets. So we look at all of those factors when we're doing the placements, but the families really help us make the program. We couldn't do it without them," said Baker.
