Bruce Grey Owen Sound Conservative MP Larry Miller has announced he's retiring from politics.
At a news conference in Owen Sound Friday morning, Miller said he will not be running in this year's federal election. He's been the MP for the riding since 2004 and says that's long enough and he's glad to be exiting on his own terms. Millers said his electoral success stems from staying close to the grass roots.
"I've always been an advocate for the little guy because I consider myself one of them. I've had a lot of dirt and cow manure under my fingernails. I'm not afraid to work as most Canadians aren't," said Miller in an interview after his announcement.
Miller leaves politics as outspoken as always, with nothing good to say about the federal Liberal government and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
"I didn't like Pierre Trudeau but I respected him and I have zero respect for this prime minister. I just hope that we can get government back before he completely destroys the country," said Miller.
Miller said he'll campaign for whichever candidate is chosen by the Conservatives in the Bruce Grey Owen Sound riding.
Miller will finish out his term in parliament before retiring. He said after that, he'll spend more time with his family, especially his many grandchildren.
