Huron County has sent a letter to the Town of Goderich, clarifying its interest in purchasing part of the former Victoria Public School property.
County CAO Meighan Wark said part of what they had to do is determine exactly what square footage they would need for the various departments, and also the amount of parking that would be required.
Huron County has been looking at consolidating staff for some time due to increasing demands on limited space in the courthouse and the potential to increase efficiency by bringing more staff together in one building.
Wark said the County also has to decide what kind of facility it wants.
"Is it their desire to continue to invest in the existing bricks and mortar or is it time for them to build something that would be far more efficient, both in terms of services but then also in terms of overall efficiencies in a building," he said.
Wark said staff have been gathering all of the information the new council requires, and that will be presented to them in the new year.
