Almost 200 local Grade 9 students were on site at Bruce Power for Take our Kids to Work Day.
The students attended an interactive career fair and a virtual reality tour of the upcoming Major Component Replacement Project on Thursday. The 170 students also toured the site, the state-of-the-art Fire Training Facility, and the water demineralization plant.
“It was wonderful to see the students’ smiles as they took part in the unique experiences we provided during their visit,” said Mike Rencheck, Bruce Power’s President and CEO. “Providing opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math to local students early in their educational journey is important to Bruce Power. Through Ontario’s Nuclear Innovation Institute, we will introduce students to advanced technologies in STEM, some of which will be developed at the Institute and deployed on the Bruce site in the coming decades.”
“The Nuclear Innovation Institute will be a community hub that will allow local students of all ages to think big, conduct research, and pursue the careers of the future without having to leave their friends and family to pursue their dreams and aspirations,” he added.
Bruce Power is currently looking for a home for the institute after plans to build at the Bruce County Museum in Southampton fell through. Saugeen Shores Deputy Mayor Luke Charbonneau is rallying the community to host the project through an open letter to residents.
