Ground broken for 79 unit townhouse development in Markdale

Markdale has taken another step in it's residential growth.

An official sod-turning was held Wednesday for a major townhouse development.

Paul Bonwick of Stonebrook Developments was joined by the Mayor, council members and staff from the Municipality of Grey Highlands, as well as project partners to put shovels in the ground.

Underground servicing work will begin this fall and winter, under the direction of their contracting partner, SMRS out of Priceville.

Paul Bonwick stated that based on the current schedule, housing construction will start early in the spring for the 79 units.

"As a resident of Grey Highlands, I am extremely pleased to announce this development moving forward", stated Bonwick. "Most importantly, it will provide much needed homes for families and seniors alike.   This first phase also has the ability to demonstrate the need for a new public school in Markdale as well as providing additional support for the need of a new hospital", added Bonwick.

Youth volunteers practice coastal conservation

Nine young volunteers aged 11 to 17 spent three days exploring and protecting the Lake Huron coastline during the Coastal Conservation Youth Corps' inaugural program in Grand Bend from July 21 to 23.
