Local MPP Lisa Thompson and Huron County Warden, Jim Ginn met representatives of the Huron Respite Network to learn more about how a two-year, $111,900. Grow grant has helped the organization.
The grant awarded in 2017 to Community Living-Central Huron is helping to enhance respite options with the intention of reducing social isolation for 100 children, youth, adults and their families/caregivers residing in Huron County.
There are currently over 50 families on the waiting list for respite in Huron County.
Having access to local respite options will provide opportunities for people to connect with neighbours, establish friendships and participate in events close to home.
Respite is a periodic and planned, short-term break for family members who are the primary caregivers of a person with a disability. Ideally, respite is provided by a host family who welcomes a person into their own home for the purpose of rest and renewal for caregivers.
“I am very impressed with the work – and service - that is being done thanks to this Grow grant,” said Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson. “Providing respite is vitally important for the well being of caregivers. It helps recharge and re-energize them. I know the Friends and Neighbours Respite program is making a difference here in Huron County.”
