The CEO of the Huron-Perth Healthcare Alliance told board members at Thursday night's meeting they have been successful in significantly reducing wait times for hip and knee replacements.
Andrew Williams explains the province tracks two specific wait times. Wait one is the time between the family doctor and the specialist and the time between the specialist and the surgery. Williams says the HPHA has been able to reduce the wait two time from over 200 days to 58 and 53 for knees and hips respectively and he adds they're continually working to further reduce both waits one and two.
Williams also points out there is a website that patients can go to that gives them wait times, by region and by hospital, all over the Province, so patients are able to shop around for the best wait times
“We've really seen an improvement in our wait two for orthopedic hips and knees and we've added additional procedures to the organization and we've seen that wait drop from over 200 days to 58 and 53 for knees and hips respectively, so we're really pleased about that and we're really working too hard to continue to bring that down.”
“There's a wait time website provincially, you can go and have a look, by region and by hospital and there's two waits that are tracked, wait one and wait two and wait one is between their family doctor and their specialist and then wait two is specialist into the OR. So we need to work on both of those.”
