GoFundMe Page for victims in Bruce Peninsula

A woman who began a GoFundMe page for an Oliphant family devastated by a house fire this week says the victims were left with nothing.

Two of the victims, 48-year-old Nicole and 17-year-old Jared Kimball, were airlifted to a burn unit in London after the fire early Tuesday morning on Spry Lake Road. Both are being treated for second-degree burns, and are still on ventilators.

Nicole recently survived breast cancer, and Jared suffers from a rare condition that complicates his treatment. His mother also suffered from the same syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and recently succumbed to it.

Nyk Kimball, 44, suffered from smoke inhalation, and 18-year-old Cassie Renouf was in a separate building on the property during the fire.

Nyk is a long time employee of South-Port Mechanical-Geothermal, Cassie now works there, and Jarod did a co-op education term there.

Cathy Beitz of South-Port says they are a family of fighters, and she hopes to raise $20,000 to help them.

The family did not have insurance.

OPP officers arrived at the scene of the fire early in the morning to find three people inside the structure which was fully engulfed in flames. A fourth person staying in a second structure on the property also escaped.

The Ontario Fire Marshal has completed their scene investigation and police have released the scene. The house fire is not being treated as suspicious.
