Outgoing mayor wants to solve library issue

Outgoing North Perth Mayor Julie Behrns is excited to continue as a councillor for the upcoming term, as she makes way for Mayor-elect Todd Kasenberg.

Mayor Behrns said that with new members taking seats, there will be some key things to address in the near future.

"We have five new members of council, so getting through our first budgeting process will be a wonderful learning experience for everyone. But really, I'm looking forward to solving the library issue," she said.

Behrns said the future of the North Perth Library branches in Monkton and Atwood has been a talking point for a long time now, but she feels keeping some form of library service available is crucial.

"It's important, I believe, for everyone to maintain library service in the hamlets and villages. Certainly, we have to be diligent in remembering the communities of interest, which are places like Monkton, Kurtzville, Gowanstown, Atwood," she said.
